Shai Dahan – Tales of the Brave

I sin nya separatutställning – Tales of the Brave – introducerar Shai Dahan en ny sida för oss. Han rör sig mellan ett kaos av vibrerande sprayfärger och mer traditionellt måleri. Den här gången ser vi fler detaljer, och färre explosiva sprayfärgs mönster än vad vi har sett på hans dukar tidigare.

I Tales of the Brave ser vi stora dukar med motiv främst inspirerade från romersk konst och med inslag av barock-tidens storheter. Konstverken i sig ger oss en känsla av grekisk mytologi. Den nya kollektionen, binder samman ett konceptuell tema, som erbjuder ett större djup och en djupare mening än vad vi har sett förut. De karakteristiska spraymålade ansiktena är borta. Istället ser vi spår av dem i bakgrundsmönster i form av romerska siffror.

”Tales of the Brave” är verkligen en passande titel för en utställning där Shai Dahan porträtterar hjältemod, död, liv och kamp på ett vackert och intressant sätt. Samtidigt visar han oss att han är villig att ta sig an nya utmaningar och utforska verk av äldre mästare på ett nytt modernt sätt.

Shai Dahan – Tales of the Brave

In his new solo exhibition – Tales of the Brave – Shai Dahan introduces a new side to us. Still that clear flirt between chaos of vibrant aerosol colors and more traditional painting. This time however, it is more detailed, more mature and with a lot less explosive spraypaint patterns than we usually see on his canvases.

In Tales of the Brave we see large scale canvases with motifs mostly inspired from Roman art and even hints of the Baroque greats. The artworks itself gives us a touch of greek mythology. The new collection, which tie together in a conceptual theme offer a greater depth and a deeper meaning than seen before from the prolific artist.

The characteristic spraypainted faces are gone. Instead, we see traces of them in background patterns building the composition in shapes of Roman numbers. It is subtle but important for the completion of each individual piece.

”Tales of the Brave” is really a suitable title for an exhibition where Dahan portrays heroism, death, life and struggle in a beautiful and interesting way while still showing us he is willing to take on new challenges and explore the works of the old art masters in a new contemporary way.
