In Near the Spine, Caisa Maj Aimée Westh’s hand-built ceramic frames surround portraits by Hilda Blondie Tintin Randulv, bringing sculpture and photography into close relation.
Horses run along sharp ribs, while a spine splits a portrait in two. Familiar forms shift between the tender and the threatening. Structures meant to support and protect reveal their own fragility, while sharp edges guard what is held within. Near the Spine moves along the uncertain boundary between protection and confinement, where shelter can become enclosure.
